Leigh Fish Kids Fishing Competition 2025 Rules

1. The competition runs from 7:00am, 1st April 2025 until 5:00pm, 30th April 2025.

3. The competition is open to anglers aged 16yrs or under as at 1st July 2024.

4. Anglers do not need to be financial members of Houhora Big Game & Sports Fishing Club.

5. Fishing area is Herekino Harbour up to Cape Reinga, round to & including Whangaroa Harbour.

6. Anglers must purchase their ticket before they start fishing.

7. Small Fry age range is 2-10 yrs; Juniors age range is 11-16 yrs as at 1st July 2024.

8. Anglers may weigh in a maximum of 2 fish per species per day.

9. If two or more fish are the same weight, the fish that was weighed first will be deemed the winner.

10. To calculate the average weight prize, the weights of all eligible fish weighed in (snapper, kahawai & trevally) will be tallied & averaged. The closest to this weight will be the winner. If more than one fish is equally close, the first fish to be weighed will be deemed the winner.

11. To qualify for the heaviest aggregate of 3 species section anglers must weigh in 1 fish for each species (snapper, kahawai & trevally). The winner will be the heaviest aggregate overall. In the event of a tie, the prize will be given to the angler who weighs all species first.

12. One prize per angler per category.

13. All prizes not won will be lucky drawn. Anglers must be present to win a lucky draw.

14. The winner of the ‘Spirit of Fishing’ Trophy will be decided by the organisers. The ‘Spirit of Fishing’ Trophy is an annual trophy & remains at the club.

15. Heaviest gamefish includes – tuna (8kg or over), mahimahi (5kg or over), marlin (90kg or over), broadbill (90kg or over) & SB spearfish (10kg or over).

16. All fish to be weighed at the Houhora Big Game & Sports Fishing Club wharf by the official weighmaster between 4-5pm daily.

17. Purchasing your ticket constitutes acceptance of the Rules and Regulations covering this competition & all anglers agree to abide by the contest organisers’ decisions.

18. Breaches of any competition rules must be reported immediately to the competition organisers.

19. All decisions made by the organisers shall be final & no correspondence will be entered into.

20. All boats participating must be capable of going to sea. All skippers are advised to notify Far North Radio when they leave port & when they return to port.

21. All fish must be caught in accordance with NZSFC Inc. regulations & must be of legal size as determined by the rules set by MPI (YT Kingfish 75cm) www.nzsportfishing.co.nz/rules/

22. No longlines, nets, kontikis, torpedoes or spearguns.

23. FINAL weigh in 4-5pm Wednesday, 30th April.

24. The Houhora Big Game & Sports Fishing Club reserves the right to utilise any photographs it captures during the competition for online & social media purposes LEIGH FISH KIDS FISHING COMP 2025
